What is tail pepper?

Cubeb is a climbing plant that is still in the same family as pepper. Therefore cubeb is also called tailed pepper, because its shape is very similar to black pepper but has a small stalk like a tail at its base. Cubeb cultivation is currently very limited due to the suitability of climate and soil conditions. Cubeb has been known and traded since ancient times. Europeans in the 14th century already used cubeb as an additional seasoning in meat dishes. In addition to being a seasoning, cubeb is also extracted for essential oils and is also used as a Chinese herbal medicine.
