Lampong Black Pepper

A fragment of the lyrics of a regional song entitled "Tanoh Lado" illustrates that the land of Lampung cannot be separated from pepper. The land of "Ruwa Jurai" is known as the largest producer of black pepper since the Dutch, British, and Portuguese colonial eras. Until now, pepper is one of the mainstay spices of Lampung Province. It is not surprising that pepper is one of the symbols of the province at the eastern tip of Sumatra Island.
Lampung black pepper obtained a Geographical Indication Certificate because it has a good reputation in the domestic and international markets in 2015. The certificate is the legality of the Lampung Black Pepper brand as belonging to the Lampung community whose pepper products have distinctive taste and aroma characteristics that are not found in other regions in the world.
Lampung black pepper is characterized by being black to brownish in color with a maximum water content of 13 percent, a piperine content of 3.29-4.7 percent, essential oils of 1.14-2.89 percent, and oleoresins of 12.8-15.20 percent. It is small and compact in shape, but has a level of spiciness that can last a long time with a very strong aroma. ( sources : compas)
